From September 7, we are pleased to announce that the Senhance Surgical System from a medical equipment manufacturer in North Carolina, USA (Ascensus Surgical, Inc.) will be introduced to our hospital. This system will be used in the Women’s Urology and Urology Center and the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department at Daiichi Towa Hospital. We believe that enhancing the field of robotic surgery will play an important role in providing the best possible care to our patients.

’’What is Senhance?’’

This system was developed to digitalize laparoscopic surgery and to make it safer. The same trocar is used as in conventional laparoscopic surgery, so it can be performed with a small wound. A new feature of the Senhance forceps is that they have a sense of touch, allowing the surgeon to perform the procedure with a sensation similar to that of conventional endoscopic surgery. The sensation of grabbing and pulling the organ is transmitted from the forceps to the surgeon. Since the surgery is performed sitting, the burden on the surgeon’s body is low, and fatigue is minimized even during long operations. Senhance is treated as a laparoscopic surgery, so any surgery covered by insurance as laparoscopic surgery can be performed as an insurance surgery.
